Our fantastic Middle School Councillors are already making a difference! In one of their meetings they discussed what to do about students that are finding it hard to make friends in the playground. They decided to build a friendship bench! This bench will be a place that students can go if they are feeling lonely or left out. The councillors will monitor it and make sure they encourage others to play with them by having a box of toys and equipment for the friendship bench. Way to go councillors, already making positive changes using student voice.

We had an amazing night at out Art Festival and Book Fair. Many families turned up to enjoy the beautiful artwork, eat some yummy baking, listen to some talented musicians and purchase some books. So much hard work went into the evening. The fabulous parents that ran the book fair helped to raise an astounding amount for our library. Books for everyone....fantastic!

We decided that the students in the middle school need some representatives to speak on behalf of the students. The role of these councillors would be to listen to problems raised by the students, meet together to discuss the problems AND the achievements, then report back to their classes on their findings. We then have a big discussion about how we will address the issues raised and what actions we can take to make sure everyone is happy at Waikowhai Primary. We decided that two councillors per class would be a good idea. Everyone voted and now we have 6 fabulous class representatives. Well done to the six students below. Toby, Bruno, Skye, Amaya, Conrad and Richard. These students were chosen because they demonstrate integrity, and the key competencies. These are values needed to represent their peers.
